Dear Calin. Your essay is poignant but inaccurate. There were incidents of ground troops eliminating officers who risked their lives for no other purpose than to win medals. However, the number of incidents concerning disgruntled troops resorting to such behavior was miniscule. You have us think it was an issue of concern for the Army. It was not. But it was disturbing nonetheless. For most part, officers were professional. Their leadership was exemplary. Officers depended on the men under their command to perform as needed. We lived a symbiotic existence that typically had qualified men as leaders on the battlefields. I dislike pointing fingers at the Vietnam war and the American troops. Regards
