Hi, Araci. I am the son of holocaust survivors and a Vietnam veteran. I liked your essay about the Portugese humanitarian and hero Aristides. I did not know of this man or his accomplishments. Yet, I'm taken by his courage and audacity. He risked everything to offer kindness to those in desparate need of salvation. It is strange how such a small country produced such a great man to save the lives of so many. Yet, his weapon was a pen, not a gun. His commanding officer was not a general but his conscience. Imagine the anxiety of being discovered. When you come right down to it, the man was amazing! Thanks again for this wonderful story. I appreciate the writing. Regards.
