Hi, John. Nope, that was never the case. There were units that hunted the enemy. My team focussed on extractions of one kind or another, and only took on the enemy when all else failed. Our job was to get the target out and avoid confrontations, although it was not always possible. Check the Vietnam archives of the footage displaying helicopters ferrying us out to meet the enemy. Yup, if they didn 't come to us, we went out to meet and greet. Vietnam was a wonderful place - everything and everyone, including our own units were out to kill us. There's a reason why more than 58,000 of us died, another 150,000 returned wounded, and 22,000 veterans committed suicide.
