Hi Rebecca: It always had to do with the builder. The most cost effective way to build residential homes is to keep them all the same. In this way, exact cost of building will produce maximum efficiency and profits. Everything is built with at the lowest cost possible, as long as it meets local building standards. It was once called “row housing” and is just one step above low cost apartment projects built by the city. Go straight up 30 stories and every apartment, down to the refrigerator is the same. In some way, while projects produced suitable, clean housing for the poor, they also took away identity, culture and self-worth. I know, I came from such a place.
