How do we define courage on the battlefield?

I often thought of being able to describe courage in real terms.

I mean, what was the weight? Did it possess a color or a sound? Was there a smell, a taste, a feeling?

I know it existed outside of us, and we became its instruments.

Day after day, thousands of us perished in fulfilling its mandate, yet it can only be defined by what we did.
