Jumping into eternity

WE HAD many choices on the battlefields of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. It was summoning up the courage to make them that counted.

But, of course, the only right choice depended on our numbers, training, and the armaments we carried.

The enemy was fearless and relentless. They were hell-bent on our destruction.

Regardless of what happened, we would never sleep in peace again.

Yet, everyone I met on those killing fields did not need an explanation as to why they were ready to jump into eternity for no personal gain except to protect their brothers. And it was just the way back then.
