The destiny of allegiance
We will not see their warm smiles again or hear their laughter. They are gone.
We did not want them to go. We knew the danger, and yet they followed their country’s call.
Such a long time ago, and we mourn their deaths still. We wonder if they remembered how much we loved them.
We talk of them often, remembering the good times. When we think of them this way, they live again in our mind’s eye.
We honor their lives and service to our great nation. Yet, we must wonder about the lives that would have been theirs to share. We remember them with pride, sadness, and a heavy heart.
