THE LAND OF VAMPIRES, GHOSTS & WIZARDS
Vampires, dragons, witches, and wizards, oh my! Ghosts, ghouls, monsters, and battle, oh no! Fiction or fantasy?
All these things were fundamental in the war-ravaged lands of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. No Grimm fairy tale, Edgar Allen Poe horror story, or fantasy drawing would compare to the reality of our combat experiences.
Nothing would adequately describe the terror that has one soiling themselves or urinating in their clothing. No description would cause the reader or viewer to throw up from the blood and gore we caused and witnessed. And no amount of understanding could prepare us for the loss of our brothers and the injuries we suffered.
And then there was the betrayal of the idyllic picture of home we carried. It was an illusion. We were twice deceived: first by the war and then by the citizens from whom we expected thanks and understanding. And that was Vietnam.
