There was no way back
We lived in anguish on the battlefields of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
We were ordered into this existence by our country and forced to make life and death choices. It only took one wrong choice to threaten our mortality.
It came to me that we were the only ones who could save us. We needed to convince ourselves of who we wanted to become.
I often wondered if the day’s events would become the hardest things we ever did. But I was wrong. Something more horrific was always waiting to reveal itself. And the unequivocal proof was that more than 58,000 of us died, and 150,000 returned wounded.
