VIETNAM UNCENSORED: TALES OF SACRIFICE AND BROTHERHOOD
I remember the necessity to swallow our fear as we faced the anxiety of another day in the killing fields of Vietnam. The existential threat appeared everywhere and from all quarters, including our own.
Artillery and aerial assaults were not trustworthy of hitting anything but the ground, often finding us in their line of destruction. Commanding officers relied on Army intelligence that did not accurately North Vietnamese activity. It led to enemy ambushes and trip mines.
It came down to trusting the brother at our side. Strength, endurance, and skill were not enough to keep us from harm. Instead, our oaths and allegiances to our unit and comrades became the only path to returning uninjured and alive.
And so, it went on day after day where everything and everyone was out to kill us. And although I do not remember ever discussing the matter, the thought of surviving the day remained the prominent thought passing through our minds.
The fantastic acts of courage and sacrifice come alive on the written pages of Vietnam Uncensored. My memoir will be published in early November. I invite you to read the first chapter at Vietnam Jerry and listen to the NPR broadcast of Cpl. Cummings’ ghost story. You will receive the weekly newsletter, at a significantly discounted price on the book’s launch day and become eligible to receive authentic Vietnam War memorabilia.
Net proceeds from book sales will help veterans in need through the Kaufman Fund. So, not only will you get an excellent read, but you will also support our veterans. Hope to see you at the launch. Thanks.
