What do we become if we cannot see ourselves in a mirror?

We did not see who we were becoming.

Each day brought more challenges to our mortality.

There was little we could do but to accept the world confronting us.

We did not consider ourselves brave. We did not even think we were particularly good soldiers. Yet we were both and would come to prove it time and again.

Still, I was in the company of amazing individuals who stood their ground, protected their brothers, and were ready to die for country and comrades. This is who we were and would forever be.
