What happened in Vietnam the day after Christmas?
When it came down to it, we needed as much strength of the spirit as we did of skill and endurance.
We did not have more than our training and combat experience to guide us.
There was no use in avoiding the daily threat confronting us.
We had to act, no matter what we found.
It would be foolish to say we did not shiver from the fright and occasionally throw up from the overwhelming anxiety. And it would be a lie to state the horrors we encountered became commonplace. There was always something more grotesque waiting to reveal itself.
And that was Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia the day after Christmas and every other.
