What we did when the anxiety was a raging river
When you came right down to it, who were we?
We were no more than flesh covered bones, driven by a superior brain.
Our bodies were manufactured from the same stardust of every living thing at the planet. A planet traveling endlessly in space to some unknown destination.
We dilly-dallied in the cosmos for trillions of years before some chance encounter between two humans made our existence possible, and it is to this place we would return. So, what was there to fear?
Yet, this thought never occurred to me when I suited up to face the enemy in Vietnam.
I was overwhelmed with anxiety. And it has never left me.
