Member-only story
When it was purpose over passion that ruled the day
We suited up each day to confront the enemy.
Our team consisted of seven men.
My commanding officer told me that we were enough to conquer the assignment. “After all,” he said, “out of every hundred men, only ten will be good soldiers. So, your team is suitable for the job. Usually, one in the group is the true hero, and he will return the rest. But in your case, I consider all seven of you first-class warriors.”
I felt the praise, the highest compliment of my short career in the Army.
