WHAT I HAD TO REMEMBER was how to respond to every situation.

My decisions would come to define our mortality on the battlefields of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

I needed to teach myself not to react to the stupidity of it all and quell my anger and frustration.

During the chaos and anxiety, finding a calm place and judging the consequences of my actions were essential. And yet, I had to act in haste and choose wisely. Our lives depended on it.
