WHO WAS I KIDDING?
We could not imagine making a difference with our presence on the battlefield. After all, the war was 550,000 American troops deep.
But we could make a difference in our survival; over time, it would reach epic proportions. But who was I kidding?
Each day was a new set of challenges morphing every which way as the screw turned to bury us deeper into the quagmire of death, destruction, and evil deeds. I knew we were as much the victims as the enemy, but still, I did not see us slip-sliding into insanity.
And that was another day in Vietnam.
