WHY THE SMALL THINGS COUNT

Once on the battlefields, I found our intense training kicked in.

We trained day and night until our skills and attention to detail became second nature.

Sgt. Greeley often repeated, “Listen up. Always remember that how you will do anything is how you will do everything. So establish a routine and do everything right every time. It will make the difference.”

I often thought of Sgt. Greeley as we began another day into oblivion. I checked, rechecked, and did it all again until the team was sick of me, but attention to even the smallest detail was what came to save us.

And yet, more than 58,000 of my brothers perished. I can’t wrap my head around the number.
